Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi - Nairobi National Park - Nairobi

Visiting Nairobi National Park is a great day out, particularly if you are short on time, money or if you have a spare day in Nairobi. So nobody needs to miss out on going on safari!

As the park is relatively small, and close to Nairobi, it is best to do either a morning or afternoon game drive of around four hours. The park is open from 06:00-19:00.

The morning game drive departs at 06:00 to arrive in the park at 06:30 and has a full four hours morning game drive. We will depart the park at approximately 10:30 to return to the hotel at 11:00. The afternoon game drive departs at 14:00 to arrive in the park at 14:30 and has a full afternoon four-hour game drive. We will depart the park at 18:30 to return to the hotel at 19:00.

Established in 1946, Nairobi National Park is the oldest park in Kenya and covers 117 square kilometers. Only 7km from downtown Nairobi, situated on the southern outskirts, it is not uncommon to view rhino browsing peacefully amongst acacias with a view of Nairobi's high-rise buildings in the background.

This game park is truly unique and hosts over 100 mammals and up to 500 species of permanent and migratory birds. It is possible to see all of the big fi ve, except elephants, as the park is too small to support them. Residents include: lion, cheetah, leopard, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hyena, baboon, monkey, warthog, hippo, crocodile and a dozen species of antelope. Bird specialities include: marabou stork, vultures, hawkeagles, secretary birds, ostrich, bustard and widowbirds.

The park is fenced on three sides, but the southern side is open allowing animals to migrate towards the Masai plains and Amboseli. The concentration of animals is greatest during the dry season when external water sources have dried up and animals can take advantage of a number of small dams inside the park. Nairobi National Park also boasts the highest population of black rhino, and has proved to be a great rhino sanctuary as it is not remote enough for poachers.

All this within 20 minutes drive of your hotel room!
