By staying at one of the World’s most renowned wilderness lodges you can enjoy amazing up-close experiences with some of Africa’s ‘big five’. Nighttime is particularly spectacular, when it is possible to spot many animals which can elude you during daytime game drives. Built as a modern-day ‘Noah’s Ark’, The Ark opened in 1969 and is well established in its beautiful forest environment. It is tucked away overlooking the floodlit Yasabara Waterhole, a large mineral-lick, which is a natural magnet for a variety of wildlife. There are unobstructed views from four viewing decks (enclosed and open-air balconies) and a boardwalk to observe birds and animals.

Although The Ark’s facilities are quite basic for a resort and the rooms are small, with such spectacular wildlife viewing, you won’t be spending much time in your room. Each room has a buzzer which guests can activate to receive night-time animal alerts of their choice - so you won’t miss any memorable viewing opportunities. There is also a resident naturist who gives talks and keeps a log showing the animals spotted each day. The Ark is due to be renovated in 2009.
