Itinerary
Day 1:
Nairobi - Hell’s Gate - Lake Naivasha
Depart Nairobi and head north towards the Rift Valley town of Naivasha. On route we will stop for views across the great Rift Valley, Mt Longonot and Lake Naivasha. We pass through Naivasha town and drive around the southern end of the lake, past the flower farms to the entrance of Hell’s Gate National Park.

Soon after you enter the park the impressive landscape unfolds before you, and you are transported to a dramatic, semi-arid world, with sheer rugged cliffs, open plains and deep concealed gorges. There are many activities you can do within Hell’s Gate including walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching and trekking through the lower gorge amongst the geysers – the choice is yours. Picnic lunch in the park.

Late afternoon we depart Hell’s Gate for Fisherman’s camp on the shore of Lake Naivasha, for a well-earned hot shower, dinner and overnight camping.

Day 2: Lake Naivasha - Crater Lake - Elsemere - Nairobi
After breakfast, enjoy an early morning boat ride on Lake Naivasha. You will be able to look out for the hundreds of bird species as well as the hippos (which you may have heard at camp last night!).

Proceed to Crater Lake Conservancy Area where you will walk to the rim of the beautiful volcanic crater for views down to the emerald-green crater lake. In recent times, flamingo populations have boomed, having migrated from Lake Nakuru to take up residence here. After picnic lunch, with your guide you can walk through the conservancy area trekking after plains animals including giraffe, eland and antelope, while admiring the various species of birds and plants.

Mid afternoon we will proceed to Elsemere, home to the late Joy and George Adamson, of Born Free fame. This is now a conservation centre and museum where you will be able to watch a video about the Adamsons and their conservancy work, before enjoying afternoon tea in their beautiful gardens. And don’t worry, you won’t be alone – you may have the pleasure of the company of a family of black and white colobus monkeys, as well as a variety of birds – who also have a sweet tooth! Late afternoon, return to Nairobi.
