Standing at 5895m, Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. It is one of the world’s most famous landmarks and is a magnificent site with her white, ice-capped rim. Sitting on the border of Tanzania and Kenya, and only 340km south of the equator, the peak is covered year-round my snow, ice and glaciers. Although scientists are predicting that the glaciers will have disappeared by 2020 due to solar radiation.

Climbing this mountain is no small task and climbers need to be adequately prepared with the right equipment and adequate fitness. Although it is not a technical climb, altitude can affect people (usually once higher than 3000m) so we recommend a six day trek to allow for acclimatisation. Taking it ‘pole pole’ (slowly) will maximise your chances of reaching the top!
