Malindi About 3 hrs drive north of Mombassa this beach resort town is still quiet and the beaches are beautiful with their white sands. Coming here can be either a stopover on your way to Lamu or a beach holiday in its own right. The people are much friendlier here than in the cities and you notice it straight away, even if it is the second largest coastal town in Kenya after Mombassa. The town dates back as far as 1060 when it was noted by a Chinese geographer but the first accurate reference was written by prince Abu al-Fida who lived here from around 1273-1331, and there is evidence that the town was founded by the Arabs back in the 13th century. |
